Xcel Running Club elite top runners Kamohelo Mofolo has boldly declared his intention to win the Hollywood Durban 10km race scheduled for Saturday, August 30, at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium. Now in its fifth edition, the race which was first run in November 2021 has attracted a strong men's field who are eager to achieve fast times on an ideal flat course. Notable competitors include Mofolo, the in-form Kabelo Mulaudzi, Stephen Mokoka, and Thabang Mosiako all of whom have broken the 28 minute barrier.

Mofolo has demonstrated impressive form this year, achieving two sub-28-minute finishes in the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series races in Cape Town and Durban. During this time, he set a new Lesotho national record of 27:47 in the Durban on 13 July. Speaking during the pre-race press conference at the in the PResidential Suite of the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium earlier today, Lesotho's fastest 10km athlete of all time made it clear that his goal is to win a race that offers R37,500 in prize money for the first man or woman to cross the finish line.

"The preparations have gone well. I'm aiming to run at my own pace and won't stick with the other competitors. My target is to win the race. If I can break the national record of 27:47 and perhaps run a time of 27 minutes flat, I would be very happy," he said. Last year, Mofolo finished third with an excellent time of 28:09, behind Elroy Gelant and overall winner Tebello Ramakongoana.

In the women's race, all eyes will be on Neheng Khatala to showcase her outstanding form. The 33-year-old runner from Hollywood Athletics Club comes to this event as the defending champion, having won last year with a solid time of 32:25. Khatala recently set a new Lesotho national 10km record with an impressive performance of 31:53 during the Durban leg of the Totalsport Women's Race. However, she expressed uncertainty about how her body will respond on race day.

"August has been a busy month for me. I've participated in three races, which is the first time I've done that in my career," said Khatala, who is also the reigning Africanbank Soweto Marathon champion, reflecting on her experiences in the three TotalSport races (Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg).

"If I can perform well on race day, it will show that I'm in great shape. Conversely, if I struggle, it would indicate that I'm starting to feel fatigued. But that doesn't mean I won't give it my all on race day."
