A week after running the fastest time on African soil (30:14) in Durban, Christine Njoki underlined her status as one of the best 10km performers in the world by winning the second instalment of the 2025 Totalsports Women’s Race in Cape Town this morning. On a perfect day for running where Table Mountain held back the impending stormy weather, Njoki clocked 31:16 to set a new course record and defend the title she won last year.

"I want to thank God for this day because the race was so enjoyable," said the Kenyan reflecting on the event which started and finished outside the Cape Town City Hall. "I enjoyed the course because I like to run hills. I had prepared mentally for this race because I know it is tough after I ran last year. It was good to have the fans cheering me on along the way which motivated me. I ran my own race."

Behind Njoki, the runner-up position was decided by a sprint finish as Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA champion Jane Chacha (32:19) bested Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN winner Claire Ndiwa (32:20) to ensure that the Kenyans swept the podium. Lesotho's Neheng Khatala who broke her national record in Durban just six days ago, claimed fifth position in a credible 32:48, while Karabo More took eighth position in 34:05 to finish as the first South African in what was the fourth fastest 10km clocking of her burgeoning career.

"I feels great. As soon as I saw all the big girls here today I told myself that I’m just here for the time. I just had to run with my heart because if your body can’t do it you have to run with your heart and mind. I just ran. I just ran my own race," said the 23-year-old who first announced herself as a top runner when she place inside the top ten at the Joburg leg of the Totalsports Women's Race back in 2023.
