Mulaudzi the man to beat as fast times are predicted for Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10k race

Thanks to the good prize money on offer, fast times are being predicted for the inaugural Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10k race scheduled for the 14th of November at the Kings Park Athletics Stadium in Durban. With a whooping R15 000 for both men's and women's winners up for grabs, it makes the race one of the richest 10k's in South Africa. Moreover, the fast and flat route bolstered by the city's generally cool weather conditions suggests we could be in for some epic racing on the day.

Former SA 5000m champion Gladwin Mzazi, and Collen Mulaudzi who finished third at the Absa Durban 10k CITYRUN in a new personal best time of 28:26, are just a few of the country's top runners who have accepted the invitation to be on the starting line. Speaking to #TheTopRunner race director Mdu Khumalo who is the founder of Phantane Athletics Club which is the hosting club of the event, said everything is on track as we edge closer to race day.

"Everything is going well and on point as we speak. So far we have invited some excellent runners including Mzazi (Gladwin), Collen Malaudzi, Sipho Mbanjwa and Philani Buthelezi who have confirmed their participation in the race. The route is welcoming as always and I expect some good times from the athletes," he shared.

Khumalo who also coaches reigning SA 10 000m Champion Mbuleli Mathanga, is encouraging the athletes to take advantage of this good prize money. "I hope athletes take advantage of this good prize money we have set for them. I understand the pain and the struggle the athletes face so this money will come as a boost to them. In all the races, I organized before, I try by all means to look out for athletes. Also, I pay the winners fast if doping isn't involved because I understand that some runners are not working," he said.
