Comrades Gold hopeful Mhlakwana joins Hollywoodbets AC

South African long-distance runner Nkosikhona Mhlakwana will be running for a new club in 2022. This comes after the man affectionately known as 'Caster' decided to join the Hollywoodbets Athletics Club. The 28-year-old Howick-born athlete has decided to leave Maxed Elite Running Club.

In an exclusive interview, he conducted with #TheTopRunner, Mhlakwana confirmed that he has finalized all the paperwork for his move and can't wait to wait to wear the famous purple colours in 2022. "I can confirm that we have finalised all the necessary details in order for me to be part of the Hollywoodbets family and I can wait to wear the club colours," said an elated Mhlakwana.

Mhlakwana who joined Maxed from Boxer Athletics Club in 2018, had been one of the club's most consistent performers and his move leaves a big gap to fill. But the man who finished in 11th place in the 2019 Comrades Marathon believes it is time for change and the move will play a significant role in his athletic career.

"I think it was about time I have found a new home. I have represented Maxed with honor during my tenure but all good things come to an end," explained the man who is coached by Comrades Marathon gold medalist Prodigal Kumalo who also joined Hollywoodbets in early 2021.

"I think I have made the right choice since I consulted my coach about this move. I believe this move will help me build my career to the next level and the club I have joined have good intentions for running," he concluded.

The reigning Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi 52km Ultra-Marathon champion is not the only athlete expected to join the club as some household names are expected to be unveiled in the upcoming weeks.
